Harrison, Doug (Basketball Builder)

  • Founder of the Hamilton Transway Girls Basketball Club in 1979; Transway Teams have won 75 Provincial Championships in the last 30 years, over 200 tournaments and has the most wins for a club in Ontario
  • Created and convened Transway Annual Tournament in 1983 and in the past 27 years it has brought more than 1,300 girls teams into the City which represents over 18,000 players and coaches
  • Started the Transway house league in 1985, the Transway Annual Basketball Summer camp in 1993
  • Awards received – 2008 inducted into Ontario’s Basketball Hall of Fame (builder), 2004 Celebration of Significant People, 2000 – Greater Hamilton Tourism Award of Excellence, 1998-City of Hamilton’s Sport Volunteer of the year, 1996-2007 Board of Directors for Hamilton Sport Council
  • Member of Hamilton’s Senior “B” basketballchampionship team, 1961
  • Captain of the Delta High School basketball team and two timewinner of the Hamilton Spectator All Star Player Award
  • Born and raised in east end Hamilton, retired after 40 years with Stelco in 2003
